Ski World Cup Opening & „Hannibal“

On your alpine journey over the Timmelsjoch, the most famous village is probably Sölden. Not only is the opening of the FIS Ski World Cup held here every year in October. Every two years you can see here the world’s greatest contemporary performance. “Hannibal” is a live performance which takes place on the Rettenbach Glacier in the Ötztal. The crossing of the Alps by the Carthaginian Commander Hannibal is recreated by 500 participants at 3,000m above sea level.

Attention: the High Alpine Road to Timmelsjoch is closed off in winter for the Ski World Cup and for the glacier play “Hannibal”.
