The Smuggler

Further along the High Alpine Road, after the bridge over the Timmelsbach stream, awaits a walk-in cube – “The Smuggler”. Here you get an impression of the dangers that the smugglers were exposed to high up in the mountains. A good 10 hours march – mostly at night – and heavily laden with a full pack, a smuggler had to cover difficult terrain over the Timmelsjoch. Danger to life was regularly threatened by avalanches, landslides, freezing temperatures, falling or even trigger-happy customs officials.
