MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM

Motorcycle: BMW R4 1932

Another special treat of our Motorcycle Museum:

A total of 1101 pieces of these single cylinder were produced in the series 1 in 1932 - with a price of 1,250 Reichsmark at that time,  in the years of the Great Depression it was considered as a thoroughly affordable motorcycle of the middle class.

A longitudinally installed engine (398 cc displacement and with 84 mm the longest stroke of all BMW bikes) with upright cylinder, fully enclosed valve train and hanging valves made 12 hp at 4000 revolutions / min and allowed speeds just over 100 km / h.
The manual transmission is used, the transmission with drive shaft is located on the right side of the unsprung rear wheel.

In the BMW R4, the Bavarian motorcycle manufacturers had once again done a great job:

The amazing grip of the motorcycle construction, the 4 staggered gears and the tough, head-mounted engine made the R4 a top off-road motorbike, which was also used according to the German military.

Our BMW R4 is - although not restored - still in full roadworthy condition!
