It is the most beautiful panoramic road heading south across the highest pass in the Eastern Alps – 60 road bends included! Scenic Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road: a dreamlike route for motorcycle fans and leisurely riders. Covering 32 kilometers, it leads from the road toll station at TOP Mountain Crosspoint in Hochgurgl/Ötztal (2,175 m) into Passeiertal in South Tyrol/Italy. From its highest point at 2,474 m it winds its way down to Merano and further on to Lake Garda … just feel & ride – garnished with the unrivaled “Timmelsjoch Drive”, six unique info points in the form of architectural sculptures.

  • Driving experience from May to November – daily 7:00 am to 8:00 pm
  • Panorama restaurant at the Crosspoint open daily 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • Motorcycle Museum open daily from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm

Footpath (Hochgurgl)

TOP panorama encircled by 3000m peaks. Info spot about Obergurgl’s stone pine forest – a natural monument, the glacier as landscape architect and the history of settlement in the high alpine area.

Smuggler

Timmelsbach Bridge – where the road crosses the original route from Zwieselstein to Moos in Passeier, you will find a walk-in cube. It takes you into the adventurous world of smuggling over Timmelsjoch Pass …

Transit

Barracks dating back to 1930. Unpublished pictures and interviews with contemporary witnesses to the construction of the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road and the military road project under Mussolini are on display.

Pass Museum

The Pass Museum juts out like a boulder from the Tirolean to the South Tyrolean side, underlining the cross-border character. The “ice cave” inside pays tribute to the pioneers of the High Alpine Road.

Telescope

Below Scheibkopf there is the amazing 180° panorama of Texelgruppe Nature Park. Set your sight on: Granatkogel (3,304 m), Hoher First (3,403 m), Passeier mountain goat, geology and rocks.

Garnet (Moos in Passeier)

Spectacular views of Moos and upper Passeiertal valley on the rocky slope near Stuls. Two garnets – modeled on rocks – provide information on waterfalls, the village with the most children and hay shooting.
